Indecent
Nashville Repertory Theatre, 2024
Paula Vogel's play documents the story of Sholem Asch's The God of Vengeance from its inception through performances in Europe to the Yiddish theatre of New York. It was when the play was transferred to Broadway that the cast was put on trial for obscenity. Following the journeys of both Asch and the stage manager Lemml, Indecent moves from location to location across decades. Lighting is a crucial vehicle for communicating these transitions.
