Hamlet
Vanderbilt University Theatre, 2005
Two parallel ideas guided the design for Shakespeare’s play: Denmark serving as a prison for Hamlet and the wreck of the ship of state upon the Danish shore. Inspired by the work of Josef Svoboda, the set was cold and dangerous looking with strong verticals ending in sharp points. The lighting carried on that cold through steel blue, and featured moments of stark composition. This production also marked my early experimentation with developing a set with 3D modeling.
