The Beauty Queen of Leenane
Vanderbilt University Theatre, 2009
Martin McDonough’s play is about a woman who has become trapped in a small house she shares with her abusive mother. This set was designed to create a feeling of entrapment for the characters through limited space, a low ceiling, a short door inspired by Irish research, and a single window. The lighting was realistic, except for one scene lit as if from the peat burning stove.
