The Cake
Nashville Repertory Theatre, 2022
Jen returns home to North Carolina to plan her dream wedding, where Della, her mother's best friend, refuses to bake her wedding cake because Jen is marrying Macy, a woman. For this production, lighting plays a key role in differentiating Della's bake shop, the bedroom in Della's and Tim's house, the bedroom where Jen and Macy are staying, and also the fantasy world (later nightmare) where Della imagines being in the Great American Bake Off television show.

"Phillip Franck deserves mention for his evocative lighting —  especially when taking us into Della’s wild imagination."  - Nashville Scene. "Nashville Rep Serves up Sweet Comedy with The Cake." By Amy Stumpfl. October 25, 2022.

"...Lighting design[er] Philip Franck illuminates the setting with his always spectacular lighting design."  - Broadway World Nashville. "Lauren Shouse's Sublime Direction of THE CAKE Provides Much Food for Thought." October 28, 2022.
